Mikayla earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Abilene Christian University and her Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UNT Dallas. Mikayla utilizes a trauma-informed approach while incorporating a variety of different therapeutic practices—including expressive arts, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)—to meet each client’s unique needs. Her work is collaborative, creative, and rooted in the belief that each individual is the expert of their own experience.
She is passionate about helping adults, teens, and couples navigate the complex and often painful experiences of trauma, grief, and unexpected life challenges. Whether clients are working through the aftermath of difficult relationships, struggling with anxiety or depression, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, Mikayla offers a safe and compassionate space for healing.
With a background in domestic violence counseling and experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, Mikayla is committed to creating an inclusive and affirming environment where each person feels seen, heard, and valued. Her clinical interests include trauma recovery, relationship conflict, adolescent issues, communication, attachment, self-esteem, women’s issues, depression, and anxiety.
At the heart of Mikayla’s work is a deep belief in every person’s capacity for growth and transformation. A quote that continues to guide her practice comes from Viktor Frankl:
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
Mikayla believes that while the past cannot be changed, healing is always possible. Her ultimate goal is to empower clients to confront what’s holding them back, heal from their pain, and step into meaningful, purpose-driven lives.
Outside of therapy, Mikayla enjoys going on runs, painting, playing volleyball, reading, laughing with friends, and looking for any opportunity to show off her 3-year-old pug, Oliver.
